Lisa and Scott established The Old Country Peddler to provide the finest possible Virginia gourmet foods, gifts, home accents and furniture at an affordable price.
Lisa
Lisa is our Chief Operations Officer. She has over 20 years of experience in retail, and has extensively researched our product line to bring you the best merchandise possible. Ask her questions about our products and what other "peddlers" are offering, and Lisa will explain why we offer the best merchandise available on any budget.
Scott
Scott is a former government engineer, turned managing partner. He handles the important back office work that keeps us open, such as making sure our vendors get paid, coordinating with the town and other downtown businesses, creating our web site, and managing our other design needs. He does venture out on the floor, but you can often find him in the back office, looking puzzled at the computer.
"Smokey"
"Smokey" is a 28 29.7 pound, 14 year old, domestic shorthair. He really doesn't work for us. In fact, he does absolutely nothing at all. Other than being "morbidly obese, but otherwise in perfect health," according to his Vet, he enjoys food, sleeping, and having his "buddha belly" rubbed. He rarely comes to the store because he doesn't travel well. (Don't ask.) "Play," to Smokey, means rolling over and making the effort to reach for a toy. Why waste perfectly good energy playing when he can just lounge there and do nothing? We put him here on our web page because most people ask about him. His picture is near the cash register. Everyone needs a hobby, and many of yours is asking about Smokey. Smokey, of course, has no hobbies. Except maybe eating and doing nothing....
"Pumpkin"
"Pumpkin" is also a feline who does not work for us. We work for her. We sell a slate that says, "Dogs have owners, Cats have staff." The Precious Pumpkin Pie Princess embodies that slate. She is the "hissingest" cat we have ever known. She gets her own claw stuck in the carpet? She hisses at her paw. Her tails hits the wall as she is walking down the hallway? She hisses at her tail. Yes, she even hisses at herself! But she is the only kitty with a candle named after her. And we carry a variety of black cat merchandise because, she may not like much of anything, but we love her nonetheless.
"Cinnamon"
"Cinnamon" Stix is the newest member of our family. Smokey doesn't like her, but she ADORES Smokey. Note the mini "Buddha Belly" on little Cinnamon. She is likely the only "normal" cat we own. Meaning, she plays, doesn't complain too much, and loves getting petted and falling asleep on top of one of us. She is the only cat we know who has a scent of potpourri named after her. And, of course, we carry it!!
